Dress Students for the Weather
Parents are reminded that students will be outdoors during the winter months. In the morning students may enter the building and put their bags away then proceed immediately outdoors. At lunch time and during the morning and afternoon recess children will also be outdoors. Our general rule of thumb is when the temperature is 0° or below, OR -10° with the wind-chill, or if it is raining students will stay inside.

  • Students need fresh air and lots of exercise, so unless the weather doesn’t allow it, your child will go outdoors for recess! These recesses occur in the morning, at lunch time, and in the afternoon, so please dress your child for ALL day weather!

  • Dress in warm layers, it’s better to remove layers than be cold!!

  • Students with a written doctor’s excuse for medical concerns for illness will be allowed to stay indoors.

School Closing due to the Weather
Winter brings snow, cold temperatures and sometimes school cancellations. In the event of in-clement weather, please listen to one of these stations for cancellations.

WTSO (1070 AM) , WMGN (98 FM), WOLX (94.9), Q106 (106 FM), WIBA (1310 AM), WTDY (1480 AM)

You can also check any of the local TV stations who list school cancellations alphabetically during their newscast as well as on their website. This information is repeated throughout the morning. In the event school is closed early due to inclement weather, your child will be directed to go to the location listed on your child's "Hey I’m Coming Home Early Form" that was in your beginning of the year registration packet. Be sure to keep us informed if you have any changes during the school year.

Waunakee Community School District is thrilled to share our new website! Thank you for your patience as we navigate. If you have suggestions or changes, please feel free to email us at wcsd_communications@waunakee.k12.wi.us.
